Alonso no?

Should I stay or should I go, sang the Clash,  the same could be said of Pete Alonso, the Mets first baseman who has scored on average 40 home runs a season.

Alonso has been offered a contract from the Mets organisation to stay for a further three years for $75 million with opt-outs.
However, as he appointed super agent Scott Boras recently, this has a long, drawn out affair stink about it.

Boras wants his clients to go to free agency as it gets their rewards more leverage as the bidding war commences. Alonso, under his previous agent was offered a seven-year deal , a couple of seasons ago and failed to take the offer for whatever reason.

Now, the 30-year old is testing the patience of the Mets, with owner Steve Cohen commenting on the negotiations saying they were "exhausting" at a recent Mets front office/fans get together.

New York may be moving onto other options with the Detroit Tigers, Spencer Torkelson a trade candidate.

Either way, Alonso's love affair with his draft club may be coming to an end and this would be a sad state of affairs. The Mets can't afford to wait, they have plans on becoming World Series winners, with or without Alonso.
